H.E. Eng. Karim Badawai, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral resources, has appointed Eng. Said Abd-Elmoniem Abd-Elmgeed Chairman of the board and Managing Director of Tharwa Petroleum Company.

Eng. Said, has more than 26 years of experience in the oil & gas industry. During his career, he was assigned to several positions including reservoir engineering, and petroleum engineering, where he held several engineering and leadership positions.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman of Tharwa Petroleum Company Eng. Said was Chairman and Managing Director of Khalda Petroleum Company, (Apache JV) from 2020-2025. Where he led the strategic merger of Qarun Petroleum Company with Khalda Petroleum Company and enabled the company to keep the growth of production as one of the biggest oil and gas producers in Egypt.
Eng. Said Abd-Elmoniem, worked on enforcing the relations and mutual trust with shareholders, which helped in adding additional investments to the company and Egypt. Also implemented the strategic vision of the Ministry of Petroleum on several projects, such as digital transformation, HSE enforcement, sustainable development, and community support projects.
Besides his role as chairman and managing director of Khalda Petroleum Company, Eng Said is a Board member of Petrojet, Tanmia, Epsco and Petroleum and Mining Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
Over the course of his career, Eng. Said has worked in various positions in the petroleum sector, as follows:
- Qarun Petroleum Company, Operations General Manager, 2017-2018
- Khalda Petroleum Company, Operations General Manager, 2018-2020
- Khalda Petroleum Company, Different roles: as Senior Engineer and Petroleum Engineering Assistant General Mgr Manager, 1998-2017
Outside of professional duties, Eng. Said Abd-Elmoniem is an active member of several organizations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to support energy professionals in advancing their technical and professional competence regarding the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas and related energy resources to achieve a safe, secure, and sustainable energy future. He is on the Egyptian section Board since 2020, and currently, serving as SPE Egyptian section Chairperson from 2022. In recognition of SPE Egyptian Section’s dedicated service to SPE, The Section Received the Section Excellence Award the year 2023.
He earned his BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Cairo University, in 1996.
